Artist’s Statement
I create paintings I want to see on my own walls—a personal standard that drives my artistic decisions, especially since space is limited.
Working exclusively in oil on canvas, I'm drawn to the medium's rich possibilities for color exploration and the extended creative dialogue possible during the days-long drying process. This allows me to continually refine and respond to the evolving work.
My figurative approach centers on finding the extraordinary in ordinary objects. I believe that even the most common subjects can evoke profound emotional responses when thoughtfully composed and executed. Or, as my favorite dictum goes, “it’s not what you say, but how you say it” that matters.
My work draws primarily from Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Modernism—movements I've studied closely in museums, auction houses, and private collections. Like jazz musicians reinterpreting standards, I aim to breathe new life into these established traditions while honoring their foundational principles.
I've embraced artificial intelligence as a compositional tool, viewing it as photography's successor in streamlining the design process.
Through my work, I hope to illuminate the enduring genius of early 20th-century masters while creating something of lasting beauty—paintings that I would enjoy seeing on my walls.
